April 28, 2010 My life, one photo a day

Zydeco and Breaux Bridge just a day before the Crawfish Festival. Nothing like a Wednesday at Des Amis on main street. If you ever get down to the Basin be sure and go by. Andrea said the messiest thing on the menu was the BBQ Shrimp....bring'em. It was a napkin killer for sure but very big and tasty. Just like the Bread Pudding. Culture and tradition are hard to find in and of themselves but to find them together in one place is magic. Go to the Bayou and enjoy. Miles

Boudreaux put up a good fight but in the end victory was mine. Along with 3 plates of his closest friends. Good mudbugs along with good company are hard to find. It's 2 days to the famous Breaux Bridge Mudbug Festival and things are heating up. The carnival is setting up and the Winn Dixie is getting ready to close because of the traffic. I'm at the Cajun Cottages north of town. My own private dock on the lake and a full moon. Watch for the Gattors.... Miles

After raids on several Michaels Craft Stores BY MILES is ready to begin marketing the "deuce". A very classy framed couple of BY MILES photos. The opening will be at the Villa Hilla this next weekend. If you are in the Hood come see the show. Textiles, movies, photos and Margs. How bad can it get. See you there. Miles

Midnight was a tough old pony until he got the fever. After growing up around the rodeo in Mesquite I was all too aware that 8 seconds was a long time. I managed it but the dismount put me square into the pile of firewood in the corner. 50 cents was a small price to pay for 92 points and some adventure on a Friday night. Miles

Black Gold, Texas Tea. The landscape of West Texas looks strange from the air. Miles and miles of pump jacks and dirt roads sucking out millions of dollars in the thick black ooze. Where does all that money go.... SHOW ME THE MONEY. Miles

Ah, the roving life of a carnie....The Great American Show was in Midland this week. They had been in that same parking lot for 3 weeks. Next it is on to Odessa and Monahayans. They truly do see the world if only one parking lot at a time. I asked Rex if I could take his picture and he said "it will cost ya". I said how much. One buck. It was a slow night in Midland and I paid the buck. Miles

Much like the butterfly I am morphing into something more sensitive and beautiful. Red wine is in my future again. The normal Chardonnay is passe. Now it's the full bodied Reds and all the joy that comes with them. Cast off the chains of the white grape and absorb the passion of the Red. or just try some room temperature vino for a change. My school workspace. Yeap, its a wreck. It's so much technology for someone who didn't grow up with it. Wow. It's a mountain to climb for sure. I wonder what the view will look like from the top. I will let you know. Miles

While all of of you flat landers are soaking up sun, I just wanted you to know that there is still a little snow on the ground in Colorado. I also learned a little about snow conditions in the late afternoon today on the hike back. Lots of folks on skis for a reason. No i didn't dig out this hole.... Miles

Pissey, frustrated, mad, hopeless, confused, and homicidal. All of these were good words for the feelings of the day. The photo is of my third Mac Book Pro in as many weeks. The apples represent the dead carcasses of the other Mac's. To my good friends who recommended the Apple I say....prepare to buy drinks...MT you know who you are.

I can't believe that frustration rules so much of our lives...why? A simple life awaits just around the bend... Miles.

Jean's dad was at D Day with Robert Capa. What a closet she must have at home. More on him later. Take a look at the old Magnum guys at Magnum.com to see what real photographers look like. Miles

Nothing like a good meal on tax day. I would recommend the "lunchables" from the top shelf.... at $2.75 it's a real smart deal. Tyler airport is the place to give it a try... Miles

The MAN is everywhere. Even in the parking lot of the building. His victim this morning was very near and dear to my heart. Yes, it was Katarina. There is something weird about watching someone get a ticket in a parking lot a few feet from their office. I'm glad she didn't make a break for it as he would have, "busted a cap in her Ass." As they say. Slow down, buckle up, and always have Crispy Creams in the car, just in case. Miles

DIE WINTER, DIE...... back in Denver and the snow won't go quietly even at 80 degrees. I can say I truly won't miss it. It's just white mud and thats all. I'm glad to see some Spring and Summer up here. My tan lines are hurtin. Miles

Sometimes it's a photo and sometimes its just a few words. Keep Austin Weird. I hope they never change the goal. No place like it I think. Miles

No hangin ferns... no Gray Poupon at the Broken Spoke. They got real mustard. It's been a long time since I cut a rug at the Spoke. Tonight it was dancin to Chris Wall. The Spoke in the morning is a strange place. Not busy, no cars, sort of quiet. No place like Texas. Miles

In the order of life humans are normally at the top of the chain. Today however the Mexican freetails of the Congress Ave bridge were the winners. A beautiful Texas night brought hundreds of people from all over out to see the spectacle. Of course, all were on the wrong side of the bridge. Miles

Indian paintbrushes and Bluebonnets nowhere else but Texas. The wash of color and life next to the road always amazes me. Today they are everywhere. It's good to have that feeling that things are familiar even if you don't live here anymore. The road seems to welcome you and point you in the direction you should be going every once in awhile. A toast to my dear friend Tom Devitt and his bride to be Susan Cameron. Looking up at the night sky in Texas makes me realize there truly are matches made in heaven. Miles

We go so fast at everything we do these days. Have you ever looked down from the window of the Boeing and wondered what you were passing over? People laughing, people crying, people wanting something different, or maybe people looking up and wishing they were on the plane that was so tiny in distant sky. Maybe for a month we should all walk, or at least drive slowly. Just a thought.... Miles

Red Rocks at dawn on Easter morning. There is a magic to the feel and sound of music lightly cascading off the rocks above you. Denver and the sunrise awaking before you is a reminder that sometimes early and slow are deeper and more meaningfull than our hurried pace. Stand for a minute, say nothing, and see the world. You will be amazed at what has escaped you. Miles.

Preparing for the Devitt/Cameron wedding. My coifing went well as anyone can see. A pair of white socks is all that is needed to pull of the look. Anne has done her job this time and earned her buck fifty.... Feel the heat.. Miles.

It's April Fool's Day and it's only fitting that today's photo is of a Fool. Nothing like taking out a father son combo crossing a 5 lane highway and being too lazy to get to the crosswalk. All to get the plastic flowers home to momma. Miles

It's all about conversation. Certainly, it's better than this most of the time. Right? Every problem seems to be about how we communicate. Miles
