June 26, 2010. My life, one photo a day

There is something surreal about Summer rain showers. Maybe it's the rainbow and the sunshine all at the same time. In this case a double rainbow. Both complete to the ground on each end. Is there a pot of gold out there.....I hope so. Miles.

June 25, 2010 My life, one photo a day

There is something strangely cathartic about downsizing. It makes you realize how impulsive and short sighted people can be. Certainly not everyone but certainly me. Why do I have all of this stuff that provides no value to me. The truth is that I can look at it and know that it never really did. We are very much a possession society without much understanding for what we really need, and even less regard for the things we already have. NOISE is very much in the hood and wonder if anyone will want my junk. At least its recycling at its finest.

I saw the most ridiculous bumper sticker today, "Spill baby Spill" stop offshore drilling. It was by GREENPEACE. Are you kidding? What idiot would think that would be a way to get anything done? Be careful who you fund.....This message in no way reflects the political views of our sponsors... Miles

Good food, good wine, and very good friends. That is the team with Aldo Leopardi the famous musodentist. Yes, he is a hybrid.
Check out some great music at Aldoleopardimusic.com and take a looks at the photos from the Big Show 1. Those are mine. It was cool and they have another one coming soon. See you in the mash pit...Miles

Sometimes it's pretty cool to get a flash fast car and cruise the hood just like you did when you were in high school. Those of you who knew me then and more importantly, knew the brown Vega hatchback with the footprint accelerator please bear with me. The Hertz gods smiled on me on my recent trip to Houston and awarded me this beast. It was even in my favorite color. Sadly, I was there for less than 24 hours and only drove it 14 miles..........When the gods want to punish you they answer your prayers....Miles

Houston is an interesting place some of the time. This isn't Venice but it seems close....It's the waterway at the Woodlands. The center is the reflection of the lights above. Lot's going on these days. Please stay tuned... Miles

Did anyone get a little tingle on the beginning of Summer? Yeap, not me either but it's still nice to see Summer. Getting home to NOISE was great and the Aldo Leopardi Band was in top form. MIles

What a wonderful evening in Denver. Jazz at City Park. There were thousands of people just hanging around. Some walking, some laying, some riding, and others just trying to learn a skill. Great company, good wine and cheese. Even a little bit of music. We will go back before the summer is over for sure. The trick is to stake out a good spot and bring all you need for a few hours. Then just relax and let the music take you in. Miles

Metamorphosis- changing from one form to something more beautiful. This may not seem like much but its a big start on some major changes. Very exciting. A great morning coffee start with our good friend Touhami fortified us for this challenge. Be advised all is blowing on the wind...Miles

Angelique Kidjo at the Boulder Theater. IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE.... from Benin West Africa via New York. Grace, Strength, Energy, and Compassion. Not bad for 70 years old..... Enough said. Miles

Barnstorming is sort of a specialty of mine. I don't always get off the ground but I often look down on the world with awe from a dizzying height. Can you imagine the first few feet of the flight at Kitty Hawk? So, what kinds of flight have you taken today...?
Stay tuned for flights of Travel from the Road By Miles.

"Sing us a song Mr. Piano man, sing us a song for free...." and so the song goes. A late evening concert on the 16th street mall by an unknown musician. I think we all have songs to sing and music to play but all too often we stare at the keys and wonder what people may think if we miss a note..... A perfect melody can be heard for miles no matter how the piano is tuned or experienced the musician. After all, its really about the courage to sit down and take your chances.... as the billboard says, "never hide". Miles

In the dark all meatloaf is gray. While in the light this one had some color it was still a bit gray. I actually miss my mothers meatloaf. Lots of stuff in it. Now I buy it at the King Super.... Miles

Right when you think you have seen it all. There it is. "By Miles" on the back of a car. What? Did some relative leave me a car dealership? Not hardly, but it's good to dream. Think about the scramble for the camera to get the shot....or don't. Miles

A lonely stretch of road in South Wyoming. The color of the earth and short lived green of the plants make a box of pastels look plain against a this storming sky. Maybe we just forget that there are other places in this country that don't care about the clock, rush hour, or the smell of asphalt. They do their own thing on their own time and will long after we are gone. MIles

Angry skies over the Moulton Corral with the Tetons in the background. It was the only time the clouds parted enough to see the Grand Teton and they were not happy about it. It is still hard not to be in awe of that pile of rocks. If you could just chase the people away......Miles

What is paradise? Where is Utopia? You ask just about anyone and they have a different answer. Mine? Well a front runner is the Granite Hot Springs 10 miles down a bumpy gravel road on the edge of the Bridger Wilderness. A thermal swimming pool built in 1933 by the CCC. God bless'em. 103 in the middle and 107 at the mouth. There is nothing like being boiled in a driving cold rain with hail and freezing pellets showering down on you. It's open year round but you can only get there by the iron snow pony half of the year. Oh, and it's crowded too. If you go...Tell Dan and Karen I said hello. Miles

Normally, a buck just doesn't go very far these days. Depending on what you are used to that may be the case with the US Forest Service also. 40 bucks only gets you a house, stable, corrals, outhouse, supply barn, and 25,000 acres of land to play on. This is the Meadows on the Greys River Road through the Bridger Tetons. It's on the way to Pinedale if you can to make the drive. They only take cash and thats in a cool little town called Afton, Wyoming. All the propane and wood you can burn for the price. The silence and the sound of the river are free to all. Miles

The short cut as I call it. From Rifle, Colorado to Rock Springs goes through some desolate but beautiful country. Moffat County 10 is my favorite. About 30 miles of Gravel that snakes through the Irish Canyon onto the enormous expanse of Wyoming sand country. If you are ever up that way.....give me a call and I will tell you how to find it.

Wyoming 10 North. What a road. it runs from 318 in Colorado to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Hardly any cars and few people. Just a wonderful place to spend some time. Solitude is awesome. Miles

Sometimes works of art and beauty are forged in fire. Sometimes the gods just drop them on us. This photo wasn't in Italy or at a glass factory south of the border. It was on a street in Denver at a small booth on the street. You really don't have to go far to find the amazing and unusual. He told me he could make a SMOR in about 3 seconds....Miles

Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. The Denver Chalk art festival is no different. About a hundred street artists sitting and laying in the middle of the street in the hot Colorado sun doing their thing. Some amazing stuff in the middle of Larimar and 14th streets. A toast to all those artists who do their things for the rest of us to enjoy....Prost.. Miles

We have all thought about it....what if, what if we decided to do our dream. Would that mean we rely on the few who hit the red velvet with worn green paper? The point is, does it really matter? What is the price of a dream, the measured cost of hope, or the debt owed to yourself for not taking the chance? Who knows really.... you can bet your narrowed myopic ass that when they start throwing dirt on you at the end of it all....your pockets will be empty..... stay in the game until the lights go off...Miles

Sometimes you just have to sit and read a good book. It's all about getting your groove back and I needed it today. Too many uncontrollable things happening around me. One of the these days it will be time to start the revolution. That day is not that many turns of the calendar away.... A toast to all who have control and to those who have decided they want it. This is the view of the old 3856 and it's driver, Vern. Actually, I don't know that he is Vern, but there is not a doubt in my mind that if his mother saw this picture she would want to name him that. This photo is from the patio of NOISE. I could have thrown him my sandwich if I hadn't eaten it already. Vern is in charge of alot of iron and even more horn. I can't figure those people out that get hit at train crossings in urban areas? Maybe it's natural selection at work? Thank you Charles Darwin. MIles

Beautiful weather in LODO. This is the view from a tiny restaurant bar named the Corridor. The shape fits the name. Great place with amazing decor. We met our buddy Touhami for a drink and some grub. Very nice evening. It's amazing when you find someone who completely makes you feel at home in a very short amount of time. Who knows Morocco may be in the future. MIles
